Description

In this wonderfully evocative painting MeCray has portrayed the 397'steamer Providence, passing a catboat on the Narragansett Bay. The beautiful Fall River line 'night boat" saw service between the ports of Fall River, Massachusetts, Newport, Rhode Island, and New York from 1905 until 1937 when the line ceased operation.

With the bow of the steamer disappearing into the mist, the artist symbolizes the passing of the great steamers from the scene. Fortunately, catboats are still an entrancing sight to behold on the Narragansett Bay.

Firmly established as one of the world's finest marine painters, John MeCray has earned an international reputation for excellence.
