Captain of the Phantom
The Story of Henry Jackson Sargent, Jr. 1834-1862
The Sargent Letters describe the short career at sea of Henry Jackson Sargent, Jr. of Boston. Written to his family, especially his sister, the letters date from January in the year 1851 through August 3rd, 1862. The saga ends with his father's note to the pastor of the family church, bringing to a conclusion any hope of the survival of the Captain of the PHANTOM. Four letters which are not from Captain Harry but are included in the collection are two from Meredith Amory Sullivan, one from Perrin Ellis, and the final letter from his father. These letters are, of course, an integral part of the story of the boy from Beacon Street.
