The EMMA C. BERRY, is 38'6" fishing sloop, designed and built by R. & J. Palmer of Noank, CT in 1866. She was built as a sloop, rerigged as a schooner in 1886, and returned to sloop rigging in 1969.  In September, 1866, port of registry changed from Stonington to New London. She was sold "down east" in 1894 and registered in the Rockland and Portland, ME areas until 1918. Power was installed in 1916. She was auctioned to F.W. Beal of Jonesport, ME in 1918 and home ported there until 1930. In 1924 the fish well was removed and she was used in the coasting trade. F. Slade Dale of NJ purchased her in 1930 for use as a yacht. Extensive work was done to her from 1931-33. Dale gifted her to the Marine Historical Society in 1969. Between 1969 and 1971, she was extensively restored by Mystic Seaport staff and converted back to her original sloop rig configuration along with reinstallation of the fish well.  Called a Noank smack by Mystic Seaport as well as a "wet-well smack" by the International Yacht Register.
