    Description

Oysterman Thomas Thomas constructed the building about 1874 in New Haven, Connecticut, once the largest oyster distribution center in New England. After Thomas's death his son John converted the building to a shucking house. The oysters were shucked, then packed to be delivered to various markets. The building was donated to the museum in 1970, it was brought here by barge , restored and placed on the waterfront pier by crane in 1984. This photo was taken in 2014 by staff photographer Andy Price.
