The USS America is one of 5 paintings in the American Revolutionary War series. In 1976 the Continental Congress ordered the construction of three 74-gun ships. Only one was completed, The USS America. She was constructed at Portsmouth, N.H., overseen and launched by her captain-designate, John Paul Jones.
