Two women suffragists, Josephine Beiderhase (standing) and Inez Milholland (on horseback) wear the characteristic white banners promoting “Votes for Women.” Inez Milholland (later Boussevain) attended Vassar College, where she was suspended for organizing a woman’s suffrage meeting. Suffering from anemia, she died young (at age 30) after collapsing during a speech in Los Angeles. Beiderhase was a physical education teacher and advocate in New York.
