Cape Cod catboats were adapted for recreation after the Civil War to meet the needs of vacationers who began flocking to the Cape.  Workboat designs were shrunk to produce boats for day-sailing, and builders began to court the new recreational market. Charles A. Anderson of Wareham, Massachusetts, was one of these builders. A good example of the type, SANSHEE is about the ideal size for day-sailing. Her interior benches offer some comfort for a party. She has a touch of hollow in her stern to reduce drag when sailed upright, but she also has hard bilges to add stability when heeled down. Her bow is quite sharp for the type. She carries170 square feet of sail to step along well even in a light breeze, and she can be rowed if the wind dies.  From 87 Boat Designs by Ben Fuller.
