SPIDER, Tuckup by Jesse Deputy
SPIDER, Tuckup by Jesse Deputy
SKU:WSP.MISC.25
Of the reproductions of SPIDER, one has a racing rig, and one has a smaller gaff rig like that of the SEEDS when Brownlee and Brewington measured her. One SEEDS replica is sailing with a racing rig. Both racing rigs have gone over the side once. For more background and photos of these boats, see "Fishtown Tricks, The Delaware River's 15' Flyers," WoodenBoat 148, May/June 1999. Building either of these tuckups is probably easier than building a similar-size Whitehall, with the added complication of the deck. You'll get a much better sailboat, if sailing is what you want. If you took a bit of hollow out of the transom, you could easily plank a tuckup as a glued-lap boat. Mystic Seaport and some other institutions have patterns for hardware, which is included in the plans of SPIDER. From 87 Boat Designs by Ben Fuller.
