SUSIE, Woods Hole Spritsail Boat
SUSIE, Woods Hole Spritsail Boat
SKU:WSP.7.121
The three boats built by cabinet maker E.E. Swift show a highly evolved technique, which is carefully documented in Dave Dillion's plans. The boats also show a steady refinement in design. SPY has the least deadrise and is widest down low, while the last boat is sharper all around. The biggest difference is in the position and size of the centerboard. Swift's last boat and SUSIE have the same pivot point, but SUSIE's board is about 9" longer. SPY is in between: her pivot point is 3" aft of the others, but she has the same-size board as the last boat. This changes the interior layouts so that SUSIE's stern seat is about 10" farther aft than that of Swift's last boat, with SPY in between. Swift's last boat is the only boat of the three without batten-seam planking, going up from 7/16" to 9/16" planking to compensate. From 87 Boat Designs by Ben Fuller. Plans drawn in 1984.
